Hour 1: Ethical Issues and the Rise of Generative AI
This session will explore current and likely future ethical implications for attorneys given the growth in availability of generative artificial intelligence technologies such as ChatGPT and the growing number of similar products tailored to the practice of law. This session will also involve discussion of court orders and local rules hampering or limiting the growth of generative AI in the legal sphere.
Hour 2: Just keep trucking or slow down? Modern Day Conflicts of Interest Issues.
Conflict-of-interest issues can still be a source of frustration for lawyers and law firms, as well as a source of actual claims. Lawyers involved in the trucking industry are not immune to having to detect and avoid conflicts of interest. In addition to having the same issues as lawyers in other industries, issues related to providing “rapid response” representation can increase the stakes and the difficulties inherent in complying with conflict rules. This session will explore a variety of aspects of the way Model Rules 1.7, 1.9, and 1.10 come together to address these kinds of issues.
